The music industry can be a bit of a boys club at times and even now that we have reached the 21st Century there is still a stigma attached to female musicians and whether they can actually play their intruments. (Of course they can!) That's why it's great to see a compilation of this nature released.
The first Girl Compilation came out in December last year and contained 21 artists from Melbourne including In Vivo, Porcelain, Band Camp, KTV, Pout and Dolly Blitz amongst others. The Launches were held through Dec/Jan and proved very successful as the door charge at the venues was only $5 and included a free CD. The Melbourne street press and community radio got behind the CD which was great considering all the bands were independent.
Girl Comp 2 is about to be released this time with 19 artists. As well as KTV, Pout and Dolly Blitz the CD also includes Virtue, Milk, The Elements, Deborah Hocking, The Amazons and Brunatex from Adelaide. As with Girl 1, the Cd is very diverse encompassing everything from rock, pop, indie, folk and acoustic.
The Launches will be held at top venues in Melbourne mid- June, more details soon. Come along and support the bands and the Melbourne music scene, which is the best music scene in Oz!
PS Just to clear up any misconceptions, Girl Comp is a CD that features female singers, it is NOT a female only cd. There are heaps of male musicians on this cd, ok!
