Cindy says:

So what’s the current line-up of The Killchoir Project and who plays what in the band?

Danny says:

The current line up is me, Danny - Vocals, Pete Wood - bass, Ben 'Pixie' Pix - guitar, Marcus Hennig - guitar, and Jared Brown - Drums.

Cindy says:

And being an Adelaide based band, how have you found the support from the scene? Is there a large hardcore following down there?

Danny says:

Yeah, totally, although these days, we aren’t writing the same kind of material we used to write. We are more rock based these days, but we have still kept the screams. I think maybe our last 8 shows in Adelaide, haven’t been played with hardcore bands, we seem to be playing a lot more with punk and rock bands, but we like to think the HC kids still like us, pretty much all of our shows. . . ... Most of our interstate tours are with HC bands, and we have so much fun with most of those bands!

Cindy says:

Ok rockN, so what were some of the bands you listened to during the creation of Killchoir, and have the influences changed as the band's progressed?

Danny says:

Yeah totally, when we first pieced this band together, we wanted to sound like farside or sensefield, and then I realised I couldn’t sing, so I started screaming instead. I think some of our most primary influences at the time of conception with the killchoir, we were influenced by bands like Grade, Shai Hulud, Integrity, Hopesfall, these days, I think we are influenced a lot by bands like Jimmy Eat World, At the Drive In, Refused, the Foo Fighters, AC DC! ! Our music has progressed a lot in structure over the years, but we still keep the screaming/singing thing happening. For the time being anyway…

Cindy says:

That's awesome, one big jump in influence! heheh, I hear you guys played the big day out not long ago, how did that go?

Danny says:

The show itself, was awesome, but I think all the hijix afterwards were much better. . I asked meg from the white stripes if she would marry me, whilst burning her with a lit cigarette, went to a big after party at the Hilton, where john butler (trio) tried to pick a fight with me, cause I drank his $30 cocktail, I would have totally kicked his ass!! Then I spent the rest of the night getting free drinks from the drummer of amen, who used to play drums in Ugly Kid Joe!! Remember them? Oh man, it was nuts! You definitely need to party with us!

Cindy says:

Hell yes!!! Well I hear you guys are touring Sydney sometime soon, how have you found your past interstate tours to be/the scene outside Adelaide in comparison?

Danny says:

Well, I think we are really lucky in Adelaide, because every show, and every band that plays, the kids just go fucking nuts, no one is just standing there, and everyone gets involved, a lot of the other states, kids just don't seem to go hard as much, but I think what they lack in dance moves, they make up for in kindness, and total hospitality. Everyone makes you feel really welcomed, especially in Sydney and Melbourne. And Sydney has rad beer. ie: tooheys new.

Cindy says:

Yeah… Us Sydney siders are pretty rockN eh…. Heehhehh

Ive noticed the hardcore scene to have a lot more straight edge people then it used too, is this how it’s becoming or is it still all about stereotypical sex drugs and rocknroll thang?

Danny says:

I’m not sure actually, I think in Adelaide, there are alot less SXE people, I’m not sure about the other states tho, I think most of the people we see at shows, enjoy a good beer and stuff, and there are still alot of kids standing by their convictions, but alot have just sold out and moved on. Our old bass player is SXE, maybe that’s why he quit the band!!! ; )

Cindy says:

Is there a single band member that writes the music + lyrics or is it a shared job?

Danny says:

Umm, I write all the lyrics, and when we first started out, the guitarists wrote most of the music, but now its a really shared thing, cause we all listen to different music, so when the ideas melt together, sometimes we come up with some pretty good stuff. I've even written a few of the riffs to some of our songs! : )

Cindy says:

Can you tell us a bit about any previous recording killchoir has released, and where they're available for purchase?

Danny says:

We did two songs for the Adelaide hardcore comp called while the city sleeps, we had only been a band for like 3 months, never played a show, but we still recorded. We hate the songs, we hate the sound! And we are glad that they never pressed anymore!!! We have a cd with a few live shows, and if anyone’s interested in one, email me, no probs!

Cindy says:

After 3 months!?!? That's awesome!!! Is there any future recording plans insight?

Danny says:

Yeah, we are trying to book some time for our full length, but I’m off to the states indefinitely, petes going to japan for a while, and pixies going to the US for a holiday too, so we are just trying to work out a good time, when we will all be around to do it!! But I would say the new album will be out by early to mid 2003.

Cindy says:

Sounds like you guys are pretty busy!!!

How did the name 'The Killchoir Project' come about?

Danny says:

Basically, during the Vietnam war, there were alot of US citizens in a town called Kielchour, and the US troops had to get them out before the war was in full effect, so the US government, staged a rescue of them all called

Danny says:

The killchoir project. All of them were rescued and returned to their homes in the US, we just thought that it was an interesting name that seems to linger in your head :)

Cindy says:

That sounds pretty deep, and yeahhh it's a really catchy name hey!

Danny says:

Thanks : )
